I am looking for an underwater digital camera for use on reefs in Bermuda. Does anyone have any good suggestions? And this may seem silly but can they be used on land too? Prices would be appreciated as well.

Which digital camera?
Years ago I used to take professional pictures for portraits, modeling people just starting out needing comp cards and a portfolio , a few small weddings, landscapes and flowers. I stopped and just never really got back into photography. Now I have a son who I am always taking pictures of and some landscapes and vacations with a small compact digital camera that I really do not like but it was a gift so I used it. I just traded my Nikon F100, Nikon AF 28 105mm, Nikon AF 70 300mm ED and my SB 28 flash they only gave me $175 for whole outfit in for the Nikon J1 but I'm wondering if the D3100 would have been the better choice for me and if so I have time to return and do an exchange since it's only been 3 days. I went into the store to look at the D3100 but was talked into the J1. I haven't had the chance to really play with it yet but will today. I'm not picky about size, control options or really anything else except the image quality. I want sharp images that will enlarge nothing bigger than 11x14 nicely. Everything else I can go either way and have no preference. I mostly e mail and post my pictures but do occasionally print a few for family use. I can not afford anything more than what these two cameras cost so I do have a limit. I don't have to use Nikon and am open to other models and brands too. Thank you in advance for anyone's opinion.I do feel I was ripped off on my trade in especially since all of my equipment was in excellent condition but I kept getting pressured by my husband who knows absolutely nothing about photography to get the J1 b c he was impressed with it's gadgets, it's " cuteness" and easy for him to use even though he's not the one who is always taking pictures. I don't need a large range of lenses. Most of what I shoot isn't too far away or I crop if needed on the computer. I mostly shoot my 4 yr old and what ever activities he is involved in and of course vacation pics not that we really go anywhere or that often .My lenses were Nikon Nikkor.Ok, I am finding having a view finder is important to a lot of people. I honestly don't have a preference. I'm use to using one but do not have any problems using the display screen. I don't shoot any big events anymore therefor I don't think I will be needing a bigger or stronger flash I do agree the flash on the J1 does appear cheap for what this camera is or a wide range of lenses. Just took some test shots and uploaded them and played with the images and they are not as bad as I was expecting but I'm sure the D3100 can provide even sharper and better quality pics. Thanks everyone for their opinion. I will decide tonight if I'm going to return the J1 or keep it. So far my only real regret is trading in what I knew better not to do but let myself get talked into it anyway.

What digital camera could take about 1000 shuts per second?
I'm looking for a digital camera which can take about 1000 shuts per second burst shuts for academic research purposes. I searched a lot but I only found Ultra Speed video cameras which I'm not interested in. Thanks.I changed my mind. Any video cameras with these specs? Anyway, I need this stuff to record a film of a CO2 bubble 2 4mm moving straightly in a water column. We need to record the size and also the changes in the shape during its motion for a very short time but thoroughly and in detail. I asked a professor about it and he said you're gonna need THIS kind of stuff but I think I misunderstood his sentence. He must've meant video camera not photography camera. We have a video camera in the university but as I've checked it can not work that fast.

Last camera I had was a kodak camera, that broke on me.
