Credit Counselling Service for good credit high balances?
My credit scores are good, I have no late payments or collection accounts. But my credit card balances are getting up there. The interest is high, what are the affects on my credit reports if I become a client of one of those “credit counselling / debt management organizations”? Will my credit scores go down by doing this? I understand these services can reduce my interest rates and consolidate my debts into one monthly payment, good or no?
These sevices are for people who are behind on payments. If you are current and enroll in one, they will take your money and hold it until you are behind, then try to negotiate with the cc companies. Your credit will tank.
You would be much better off if you stop using the cards, try to get the interest lowered, and pay them down.
Budget every dime
Stop all unnecessary spending. Drop or cut back on cable, cell phones, stop eating out, cook at home, etc.
List your cards in order highest interest to lowest – Dave Ramsey suggests lowest balance to highest
Pay minimums on all but the first card on the list. The first on the list gets as much money as you can throw at it until it is paid off.
